Day 4 – Rocky Mountains Day Our 4th day was pretty much all about driving as we went from eastern Colorado to the southwestern corner of Colorado. We ate a fairly decent continental breakfast buffet at the Quality Inn before hitting the road early. The fog from the previous night was still there to greet us in the morning as we started south two lane rural roads, leaving interstate highways behind us for the time

Day 3 – Kansas City BBQ We crossed the Mississippi in to Missouri, continuing the Jesus, guns and Trump tour of America. The landscape was similar to what we had encountered in western Illinois with mostly flat, farmland for as far as the eyes could see. The highways were mostly 70mph which was great, although I did get pulled over by a Sheriff’s deputy halfway through the state. “I got you for speeding,” he said.

Day 3 – Mississippi River After we left Springfield, Illinois, the landscape changed pretty quickly from industrial midwest – which is very similar to the landscapes in New England – to flat farming country. The speed limit went up to 70 and so we used this opportunity to see if the Expedition would do 100, which it did rather easily (see image). Day 3 – Abraham Lincoln’s House

Day 3 – Abraham Lincoln’s House Our hotel was walking distance to Abraham Lincoln’s house as well as the presidential library and the Lincoln Museum. After a quick breakfast in our hotel room, we made our way to the visitor’s center to get tickets. Tickets are free but they are first come first serve. Day 2 – The Ice Storm We woke up at 6am and had the continental breakfast at the Best Western. It was pretty good. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, danish, bagels, etc. They boys ate a ton of food.
